Floors - Third Floor

A medical care area, the Third Floor is a 35 bed unit designed to look after the needs of patients admitted to St. Joseph's for conditions that do not involve surgery. Both acute and chronic care are provided, including the special needs of palliative patients.

Some of these beds are designated for patients waiting to be placed in a long-term care facility. An activity aide and therapist provide additional treatment and support to these patients to assist them to strengthen and regain the activities of daily living.

The staff encourage family participation in patient care, when circumstances permit, (this could include helping with feeding, filling out menu forms or simply keeping company). Ill patients often are comforted by the presence of close friends and family.

Many patients find therapeutic value in the Sun Room, with its top-floor windows looking out onto Comox Bay.
