Patient Care - Physical Medicine
Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy are health care professions primarily concerned with reducing the effects of impairment or disability on a person's ability to move and function in everyday life. Therapists focus their efforts toward regaining the highest level of physical, mental, social and vocational functioning for a patient consistent with their abilities, needs and wants.
Outpatient service can be accessed with a physician's referral. Appointments for Physiotherapy can be made weekdays 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Occupational Therapy 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Priority may be given to those patients who were receiving treatment as an inpatient.
Therapists work closely with community health workers to ensure successful discharges from the hospital. The outreach/physiotherapist coordinates with Continuing Care rehabilitation staff in providing for home therapy services on the weekends.
